What are Global, Regional and Local Domain NamesThe biggest problem most web designers and webmasters make in the development of a domain name identity is- having a total lack of fore-thought, planning and organizing resources. There's a great deal to consider when creating a domain name identity for your website, and more often than not rudimentary elements are over-looked or ignored all together. First and foremost, your domain name should represent the keywords for your business product and/or services and NOT you business company name. Choose your domain name wisely. The first step in creating your domain name identity is to define your potential web market geography. Where are you going to reach out for potential web customers and who are you going to sell to? Determine your web audience. Global, Regional or Local.Global Global is big... no, it's huge. Global is world wide. Imagine a world wide web audience where anyone, anywhere could reach your domain/web identity. I know what you're asking... "How do I do that?" The fact is, you can't and more likely, you never will- so get that thought out of your head right away. Who is Global? Companies like Harley-Davidson, who sell Harley parts all over the world. Not only that, they have operations, stores, outlets, dealerships and so on and so on. They are big... they are Global. They reach and attain a global Internet web market because that's what they are... Global, selling Harley Motorcycles, motorcycle parts & accessories, and what ever else Harley motorcycle enthusiasts buy. Besides being a huge company all over the world, they have two other unique advantages to marketing their products globally on the web. They're not only Global, they're also Regional and Local. Regional in the sense that they have Regional offices all over the world, and Local, because their main headquarters resides in the U.S and having dealerships in each of the 50 states. Now that's what you call a Global domain name identity. Another example is Starbucks. They buy and sell coffee all over the world because they are all over the world. The point is... global web companies can afford to use their business name in their domain name identity. Why? Because they've created it world wide to begin with. And besides, they acquired it as a household name long before the web.
