Protect your domain name identityCheap domain name ploy #1 The most widely used domain name ploy tactic is the cheap domain name register scam. It's initiated by unscrupulous domain name companies who lure you into buying cheap domain names for as low as $3.95 per year. They don't tell you the real reason why they're in the domain name registering business. What they do is collect/mass a huge customer base, usually in the thousands, and then eventually sell their client base to the highest bidder/giant- who then, nearing the last days of your registration period, sends or notifies you with a hefty bill for domain name registration renewal for $35.00 to $50.00 or more. More often than not, you are forced to pay their fees because you don't have enough time to react during the renewal process or enough time to make necessary arrangements to transfer your cyber property to a reliable domain name registrar company. You're trapped! Needless to say, your domain name can be held up during the renewal/transfer process and you could potentially loose your domain name completely. In most cases the unscrupulous domain name registrar company will drag its feet throughout the process and could virtually end up acquiring your domain name... unless of course you pay through the nose. Another thing to consider. If you do pay, you're stuck with the company for another year- unless you fork out more cash in order to make a quick and clean transfer. Like a lawsuit, you'll need some consulting from your next/new domain name registrar company in order to make the transfer flow go nice and smooth. So much for saving money huh? During the whole process, you lost valuable website exposure and worse... you could loose your search engine ranking all together. Summary... don't settle for cheap. It will usually turn out to be more costly in the far run. You only get what you pay for. Domain Name Scams & Ploys
